Last Minute Teacher Gift - Pencil Candy Jar

6/6/2016

Need a last minute gift for your child's teacher or school support staff?? This cute & fast Pencil Candy Jar took me under an hour to make! Don't want to give candy?? You can also fill it with teacher supplies, flowers, or that perfect little something that your child's teacher will LOVE!!
Picture
Here is what you need!
There are only 3 main things needed:
Pencils, a Mason Jar., & Glue

I chose to use a Half Gallon Wide Mouth size mason jar for 2 reasons: 1) the Half Gallon size allowed me to use a full pencil without having to sharpen or cut the pencil smaller - so no sharp edges & a cleaner look & 2) the wide mouth jar has less of a rounded bevel towards the top of the jar - so it allows more surface area to glue your pencils on so they will stay put.
Picture
You can choose any type of pencils: No 2, decorative, colored, or even crayons. This is the fun part! Be creative!!

Next, you'll start gluing your pencils to the jar. I found it easier to lay the jar on its side, so I can line up the pencils.
Picture
When positioning your pencils, make sure they are lined up evenly & there is a bit of space at the bottom so the jar's bottom is fully sitting flat.

I chose to use a hot glue gun to glue the pencils just because it is fast!

Keep gluing the pencils around the entire mason jar.
Picture
I decided to go a step beyond & decorate each jar with the teachers name! You can also add ribbon, stickers, paint, gems, or any other fun trinkets to add personal touch!

I will describe working with this yarn in one word..............HEAVENLY!

The yarn is very loosely spun & has 2 plies of 2 different colors, changing colors throughout the entire skein. At first, I thought the looseness of the plies would lead to "splitting" as I worked crochet stitches, but I was very surprised that it didn't!

The softness of the yarn is truly like crocheting with a cloud! The yarn flowed through my fingers with such care & grace!

The colors....THE COLORS!!!!! I would love to scream to all of the world how STUNNING the colors are in this yarn. The gradation of the colors are so subtle, complimenting the softness of the yarn, yet the colors POP creating such a unique variant in each crochet piece you create! The yarn creates such a mosaic of color transformation, it is hard to NOT look at the crochet piece!
Here are some pictures of the Chevron Lace Shrug while I was creating the pattern.
