I wanted to start of 2016 with a BANG!! The only way I could think of doing that is to have my FIRST pattern release be a FREE pattern!! Wooo Hooo!
Let's first take a look at the pattern!

What do you think??
Here is the pattern! Don't forget to scroll down to the bottom to see how you can become one of my testers!!

Braided Glam Cable Earwarmers

Materials
Worsted Weight yarn #4
  • Deborah Norville Everyday Soft
5.5mm Hook
Buttons

Sizes
Adult - 20”
Child 18”
**Length can be adjusted by working more/less rows.
Gauge
3 dc = 1 inch
2 rows = 1 inch
Special Stitches
FPtrTwist = Front Post Triple Twist - Skip first 2 FPdc, FPtr around next 2 FPdc, working in Front of FPtr just made - work FPtr around 1st skipped FPdc, then work FPtr around 2nd skipped FPdc.
Beg dc2tog = Beginning double crochet 2 together - Ch 2, dc in next dc. It is important to know that the ch-2 does NOT count as a stitch. So when you come back to work on top of this stitch, you will ONLY work in the dc part of the st & ignore the ch-2.
I have made a video demonstrating how to work the Front Twist & Back Twist Cables.
This pattern only works the Front Twist.
Notes
Odd Rows = Right Side
Even Rows = Wrong Side

Braiding:
  • Making sure you are on the Right side of the earwarmer - loosen loop on current stitch & remove hook. Follow the column of ch-8 loops down to the beginning of the earwarmer where you first skipped a dc (there will be a skipped dc for each column of ch-8s). Insert hook in skipped dc (through the normal top 2 loops). Place the first ch-8 loop on your hook & pull it through the skipped dc. You now have the ch-8 loop on your hook. *Place the next ch-8 loop on your hook & pull it through the prev ch-8 loop that is already on your hook. Repeat from * working back up the earwarmer until you have worked all ch-8 loops. Hold tight to the last ch-8 loop that is on your hook (you can place a stitch marker in it so it doesn’t get pulled out) - you will secure that ch-8 loop when you work the next row of sts.

I'm not sure I'm fast enough to be a tester. But I would love to try the pattern (for myself).

Can it be printed out? I don't see a print friendly file button. Or is this not allowed.

Its easier for me to follow the pattern if its printed out. Then I can put a ruler under each line and follow it, if that makes any sense?

Thank you for any help.

Hi Lori!
Unfortunately, I do not have a printer friendly button for my free patterns. I just write them up on my blog & do not have a hard copy. This is one way I can get people coming back to my website instead of grabbing the pattern & running!
Thanks so much & I hope you do try to work the pattern!!
Ann

I just finished the adult size, and am about to start the child one! The adult ended up a bit large on my head, but a lot of adult size things do. I will get my photos submitted hopefully tomorrow! I will add my sizing issue to the notes, but as I said, I come across this issue with almost everything I make for my head. This is such a beautiful pattern, thank you for this opportunity!

What about a "PIN" button so it would be easier to share and return?

If you hover over the pictures, a PIN IT button will appear.
Thanks!

So I ended up making 3! 2 adult: one off white, one grey; and one child: light blue/teal. Im hoping I still have light when my husband gets home tonight to get photos, if not I'll have to wait til tomorrow. But im totally addicted to this pattern! It's so easy to understand and once you get the hang of it, it goes by so quickly!

You're a genius! I love headbands but usually give up on them because I don't like how they sit across the forehead. I love your design! Can't wait to make one and wear... :) Huge thank you to you!

is the 15 to 16 in measurement from where the center loops start, or is this measurement from the beginning of the project? the pattern doesn't indicate where to achieve this measurement. thankyou in advance.

I state "total length" - so measure from the very beginning of the earwarmer.
Thanks!!

I must be blind! Lol I looked this page over at least 4 times and can not find the form to fill out to possibly be able to be a tester :( I am almost done with my first headband, making another for my daughter. (going to enjoy matching things while I still can! :) thanks for the pattern, it's adorable!

I am loving this pattern!! Very intimidated at first as I'm a beginner (7 months in) but the instructions are very clear and the video for the cablea was so very helpful. But I have a question on the adult size. Once you complete rounds to 32, the instructions say to end on row 8 but we were repeating rows 9 & 10. I'm gonna wing it and see what happens but I'm a bit confused. (Totally 100% operator techincal difficulty.....,this will be my go-to ear warmers!!!!

Hi just a question, do I dc in the loops as well? I'm very confused as to what to do with the loops. Do you perhaps have a tutorial for this headband?
