I needed to make a bunch of Pompom Makers for my daughter's class that were easy for kids to use. The kids were going to make pompom "Love Bugs" for a Valentine's Day activity & the kids needed to make the "Love Bugs" all by themselves. So I created an easy, DIY Pompom Maker that anyone can use!
"These Zero Calorie donuts are EASY, FAST, & sooo yummy (with no guilt!). You can work up the regular size in less than an hour, so you will be "baking" dozens in no time!
In addition to the Regular donut size, I have also included instructions for Mini, Large, & XL Donuts!!"
Keep scrolling to the bottom for the EXTRA BONUS size!!!
First, let talk about what is Planned Pooling.
Planned pooling is a technique where you intentionally work the colors of a multi-colored skein of yarn to make a specific design or color effect when you crochet.
Notice the word "intentionally" - means that if you do a little pre-planning, you can make the colors pool the way they should without having to frog your work a million times. And it will work the 1st time, every time!
So now it is time to crochet! Start at the beginning of your yarn (does not have to be a specific place, you will see why later). You can use any hook size that you like - hook size will only change the the total size of your piece slightly, but is not a determination to achieve planned pooling. Start chaining evenly until you get to the end of one entire color sequence..
Start crocheting your 1st row of pattern stitches. I am using the Granite/Moss St pattern by Moogly. Work the 1st row through your entire color sequence. You will have leftover chains from your beginning chain because Sc take more yarn to work. There are 33 sc/ch starting from the very 1st sc.
But, THIS is where the magic happens.....
Pull out 1 sc & 1 ch from the end of your 1st row (or you can add 1 more ch & sc - the Argyle pattern will still come out, so it is up to you which one you choose).
Then, continue to crochet the normal Granite/Moss Stitch pattern for at least 10-14 rows to see if Argyle pattern comes out the way you want.
Once you are finished, you will undo the unworked chains from the beginning chain & secure the tail with a knot. Then weave in all ends!
Yarns that Work! (PICTURES)
Show me YOUR Planned Pooling works of art!! What did you end up making?
Here are some pics from my testers that have worked this technique & the yarn they used!!

Stay WARM this winter with the Arctic Waves Slouch!!
The Arctic Waves Slouch is the perfect combo of "slouch" hat, "brimmed" hat, & "earflap" hat! The brim starts & ends near the ears, so there is no extra bunching at the back of the neck. With the added ties to the corners of the brim, you can tie it on to keep your ears nice & warm! The "waves" are created with cable stitches, so it makes the hat nice & warm for those cold "arctic" winds! And the 2 colors make the "waves" POP which adds an eye-catching appeal of texture & dimension!
The Arctic Waves Slouch comes in all sizes: Adult, Child, & Baby!
Don't be afraid to make this hat if you have never tried cables before - I have included 2 videos on how to crochet the cables & how to change colors!

Care Instructions: Hand wash gently in cold water. Lay flat to dry. Do not bleach. Do not iron. May be dry cleaned, solvent P.
Here are the rest of the colors Red Heart has to offer in the Boutique Treasure line.
I will describe working with this yarn in one word..............HEAVENLY!
The yarn is very loosely spun & has 2 plies of 2 different colors, changing colors throughout the entire skein. At first, I thought the looseness of the plies would lead to "splitting" as I worked crochet stitches, but I was very surprised that it didn't!
The softness of the yarn is truly like crocheting with a cloud! The yarn flowed through my fingers with such care & grace!
The colors....THE COLORS!!!!! I would love to scream to all of the world how STUNNING the colors are in this yarn. The gradation of the colors are so subtle, complimenting the softness of the yarn, yet the colors POP creating such a unique variant in each crochet piece you create! The yarn creates such a mosaic of color transformation, it is hard to NOT look at the crochet piece!
Here are some pictures of the Chevron Lace Shrug while I was creating the pattern.
So lets get on to the FREE pattern......
